FAQ

Do I have to watch every music theory video in order?

Not at all! Users of all experience levels can choose which lessons to watch, and may do so in any order. The videos are arranged in a suggested order of viewing, but users can skip lessons at any time.

Does the piano have to be my instrument?

Definitely not! The Breaking Barlines course uses keyboard images only to illustrate concepts. The piano keyboard is a straightforward way to visualize a lot of music theory, but you don’t need any piano skill or experience for this course.

Is music theory fun?

It CAN be if it shows you how the magic works in the music you love! If you’ve ever been enthralled by the rhythms of ragtime or the harmonies of Beethoven, music theory takes you beyond enjoyment to real understanding. It’s the difference between knowing a few phrases out of the travel book and really speaking the language.

Are the music theory videos downloadable?

No, while the video lessons are free, they cannot be downloaded. An internet connection is required for viewing.

Can I print the music theory tutorials, worksheets, and answer keys?

Yes, you can download and print these materials. Be advised: these documents, as well as audio files, blog posts, and video lessons, are the intellectual property of Breaking Barlines, LLC., and no part of them can be reposted on other sites or social media, or used for any purposes other than those intended by Breaking Barlines, LLC.
